TOFFEA - A COFFEE WITH THE ANTIOXIDANT POWER OF TEA

Abstract

The world health organization reported that in 2016 CVDs were the leading cause of death worldwide, accounting for 31% of global deaths (affecting approximately 17.9 million people). As this condition has a notorious social impact, all advances in food innovation that can help prevent / control this pathology are emerging studies. Olive oil or olive extracts, as traditional Portuguese matrices, have associated the benefits of about 30 polyphenols of their composition that act in the protection of blood lipids against oxidation, thus preventing CVDs. Although these benefits of olive tree extracts are recognized, in the form of infusions and decoctions they require a preference for this type of drink, and a preparation time of 10 to 15 minutes.

The consumption of coffee as one of the most successful drinks in the world, is also a traditional and social habit for the Portuguese community, which has associated recognized benefits such as neurostimulation, among others. What is intended with Toffea is to add synergistic antioxidant value of olive infusion, to a matrix of global preference and of differentiated value - coffee. So that in the convenience of a coffee capsule the consumer can find the added value of an olive infusion as a preventive of cardiovascular problems.

Toffea is a unique coffee that to its traditional matrix adds the benefits of the olive infusion, as a vehicle for antioxidants with recognized biological activity in diseases such as cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). As coffee is one of the most consumed beverages in the world, it is intended to associate its consumption with a “moment of health”, in a society increasingly directed towards biological and wellness products.
