Postdoctoral grant open for project in biomaterials

It is available a research grant under the project "SERICAMED – Designing Functional Silk-Based Biomaterials for In Situ Periodontal Regeneration", financed by national funds by FCT / MEC under the following conditions:

Field of study: Biomedical Engineering

Admission requirements: Applicants for the research grant should have a PhD in Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Polymer Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or a related field and knowledge of English. Preference will be given to candidates who have research experience in naturally occurring polymers and their physico-chemical characterization.

Work plan: This working plan includes as its main task the development of new biomaterials from natural sources for biomedical applications, and subsequent structural and surface modifications, incorporation of bioactive molecules and study physico-chemical and biological validation.

Workplace: The work will be developed in CBQF – Center of Biotechnology and Fine Chemical, Universidade Catolica Portuguesa – Escola Superior de Biotecnologia, under the supervision of Professor Ana Oliveira Leite.

Duration of the grant: The grant will last for 12 months (with possibility of extension) and will begin on December 1, 2015.

Value of monthly maintenance allowance: The amount of the grant corresponds to 1495 ¤ as table of grant amounts awarded directly by the FCT, I.P. in the country (http://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores).

Selection methods: Selection methods used are the following: curriculum evaluation, including curricular merit and scientific merit with its valuation of 40% and 60%. The final decision, if necessary, may involve interviewing the candidate best positioned.

Form of advertising / notification of results: The final evaluation results will be publicized through list sorted in order of ranking of candidates and posted in a visible and public place on the placard of the Direcção de Gestão de Pessoas of the Centro Regional do Porto, Catholic University, located on campus Asprela, Rua Arquiteto Lobão Vital, Apartado 2511 – Porto, being the candidate approved notified through email and the other candidates.

Application deadline and forms for submitting applications: The call will be open from 26 August to 16 October 2015.

Applications must be formalized, necessarily, by sending application letter accompanied by the following documents: (1) Motivation letter, referring to the title and project reference (ref IF / 00411/2013 / CP1167 / CT0001_BPD_I), describing the motivation and the candidate's professional objectives; (2) Copy of certificate of competence; (3) detailed CV; (4) up to three letters of reference (optional).
