Scientific Article of the ESB / CBQF on carotenoids quoted more than 150 times

A Scientific article published by the ESB / CBQF research group led by Prof. Rui Morais, entitled Evaluation of different cell disruption processes on the encysted cells of Haematococcus pluvialis: Effects on astaxanthin recovery and implications for bio-availability, and published in the Journal of Applied Phycology, has surpassed 150 citations.

The article evaluates the effectiveness of different processes of extracting carotenoid astaxanthin from one of the most important natural sources: the microalgae Haematococcus. Astaxanthin is used as a pigment in aquaculture and in human nutrition as a nutraceutical because of its potent antioxidant action. The work was developed in collaboration with the Carotenoid Research Group of Liverpool John Moores University of the United Kingdom.
