The R4Textiles project, which involved ESB, Riopele and CITEVE and CeNTI Technology Centers, resulted in the creation of a new type of fabric that combines the recycling and reuse of waste generated from the textile and agri-food industries. The sustainable character was worth to this new textile - grouped in the new brand Tenowa of Riopele - the Product Innovation Award COTEC 2018 presented on May 22 in Évora.
At ESB the work was coordinated by Prof. Manuela Pintado and global funding (€ 80,000) came from the Compete 2020 program. The creation of the Tenowa fibers also allows reducing water and energy consumption beyond, of course, the main fiber.
A jumpsuit and a dress (in the photo) by designer Nuno Baltazar were the first practical signs of the use of this textile and have already had international launch honors.
