Sofia Pereira graduated in Biological Engineering by the University of Minho, in Braga, Portugal (March, 2013). She did an internship at ProdAl Scarl research center, in Salerno, Italy (2012) to pursue her Master thesis work and was then awarded a studentship at the University of Aveiro, Portugal (2014), where she got involved in several research projects together with industrial partners under food microbiology and safety research line. Since July 2016, she is granted a PhD scholarship from the International PhD programme in Biotechnology at Catholic University of Portugal (UCP), in Porto, Portugal. Her work involves virulence traits of Listeria monocytogenes under stress conditions, and is supervised by Professor Paula Teixeira (UCP, Porto) and co-supervised by Vânia Ferreira (Post-doc at UCP, Porto). Her major fields of interests in Listeria are the role in clinical microbiology, the role in food microbiology and in cell biology.
