
Susana S.M.P. Vidigal is a Researcher at Centro de Biotecnologia e Química Fina (CBQF) of Escola Superior de Biotecnologia - Catholic University of Portugal (UCP). She obtained her PhD degree in Biotechnology with specialization in Chemistry at UCP, after graduation on Microbiology from the same institution. Her research interests are focused on automation and miniaturization of new analytical methodologies for wine monitoring using flow-based systems. The developed methodologies enable the performance of online chemical and biochemical reactions, separation processes (solid-phase, membrane-based, low-pressure chromatography) and mineralization of samples. The main purpose is to make a contribution to the development of automatic, miniaturized and cost-effective wine analysis methodologies.
The ongoing project has as main objective the study some strategies for the reduction of the precursors responsible for the formation of undesirable wine odours. The study of the interaction of these compounds with proteins are being carried out using fluorescence and chromatographic techniques.
