Carla F. Pereira is a researcher of Alchemy Project (a collaborative project between the biotechnology company Amyris Inc. and the Biotechnology School of the Portuguese Catholic University (ESB-UCP)) that aims the improvement of the efficiency in the biomolecule production process and the research of new applications for the by-products/residues resulting from this process.
She received her BSc degree in Biochemistry from University of Porto in 2009 and in 2012 she obtained her master´s degree in Chemistry at University of Aveiro. During her multidisciplinary Ph.D (Ph.D degree in Chemistry in 2017 at University of Aveiro), she had the chance to develop new nanomaterials to be applied in photocatalysis at Northwestern University in Chicago, and she also developed research skills in Organic and Inorganic Chemsitry, Chemical sensors and Catlaysis.
Her research interests are the development of smart micro- and nanostructures based on biopolymers functionalization to be applied in nutraceutical, cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries. Author of 7 scientific papers peer reviewed by experts in the field, 12 poster communications and 2 oral communications. She had received the award of the best Poster Communication in Catalysis in International Symposium on Synthesis and Catalysis in 2015. Co-supervision of 2 Ph.D students and 3 undergraduate students.
