Catarina SS Oliveira holds a Ph.D in Chemical and Biological Engineering with specialisation in Environmental Technology by a sandwich project between University of Minho, PT and CINVESTAV-IPN, MX (2012), and a 5-year B.Sc. in Biological Engineering (Specialisation in Pollution Control) by School of Engineering of University of Minho, PT (2004). She is a Senior Researcher in the Alchemy Project (an ESB-UCP and Amyris Inc. joint-collaboration project at UCP), working in the economic valorisation of residues/by-products from Amyris industrial fermentations, through fractionation and purification of components of interest, aiming the development of innovative products for food, animal feed, agricultural, cosmetic and pharmaceutical applications.
Previously, Catarina has worked as a Postdoctoral researcher at UBICIO/Requimte, FCT NOVA, PT (2012-2018), focussing on the valorisation of several agro-industrial residues/by-products through the production of PHA (polyhydroxyalkanoates) biopolymers or biogas. She has been actively involved as team member in a total of 10 national and international-European projects, co-authored 17 articles published in international peer-reviewed journals, and has been involved in the supervision/co-supervision of researchers, master and bachelor students.
