Luís Carlos Rocha Carvalho holds a BSc in Applied Biology and an MSc in Biotechnology by University of Minho since 2016 and 2018, respectively. For his MSc thesis he studied the optimization of fermentation processes for xylitol production using Saccharomyces cerevisiae, resulting in a research article. Currently Luís is a Lab Assistant and a Ph.D student for Alchemy Project in the Fermentation Platform at the Center for Biotechnology and Fine Chemistry (CBQF, Universidade Católica Portuguesa). The research line is the study of the effect of polyphenols on S. cerevisiae fed-batch fermentation, as well as the optimization of the overall fed-batch fermentation process.
