About the Centre
Established in 1992 at the Faculty of Biotechnology of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa (ESB/UCP), the CBQF (Centre of Biotechnology and Fine Chemistry) has held the prestigious status of an Associate Laboratory since 2004, distinguishing itself as the sole non-state-owned entity with this designation in Portugal. CBQF has solidified its global standing as a leading authority in Biotechnology, particularly in its focal scientific domains of food, environment, and health. At CBQF, we believe in the power of partnerships between academia and companies to drive innovation, foster economic growth, and address societal challenges.
The Center's international aspect is evident in both its personnel and its collaborative approach. CBQF actively engages with 180 institutions, including 54 international ones, and boasts a team of 255 researchers, with approximately 10% being international. Based on various criteria, the Center can be recognized as a leading institution in Portugal within its chosen fields and holds a significant position in European and Latin American forums.
