My previous scientific activity included experience in green extraction of bioactive molecules from marine-based sources (seaweeds and microalgae, industrial by-products and residues), their identification and assessment of biological activities. Specifically, the valorisation of liquid by-products from fish cannery industries has been undertaken through green technologies as microwaves and high pressure, in order to reduce environmental impact and maximize yields. I also have a long track of experience, either in academic and industry environment, in the production of bioactive lipids (modulation of microalgal cultures in closed photobioreactors to enhance the production of specific lipids, and the downstream analytical procedures related to their extraction and quantification). My recent research areas concern the valorisation of fermentation by-products through green extraction technologies and chemical/biological characterization of bioactive ingredients for application in food, animal feed, cosmetic and pharmaceutical areas, in a biorefinery concept.
